Research in the Mathematics Department of Mzuzu
University
The Mathematics Department is engaged in research in the
area of Coding Theory and Cryptography. Its specific interest is
in the classification of Goppa codes. Under this heading come
the many different aspects of Goppa codes. Goppa codes are a
vast family of codes which so far have defied classification. The
more one delves into them the more facinating they appear.
They hold many treasures yet to be discovered. Some of the
postgraduate students who, at present, are taking the MSc
Degree in Information Theory, Coding and Cryptography look
forward to discovering some of these treasures.
A second area of interest is secure cryptosystems. A third area
of interest is quasicyclic codes. Yet another area of research
being developed is codes on graphs.
